We had the day off so we thought why not go to the Zoo! Upon arriving at the Higashiyama Zoo (which was only 30 minutes away from our apartment by subway) we paid the entrance fee of 500 yen which is about $5! I’d say that’s pretty cheap for the zoo. The zoo definitely has an older feel to it and needs a little TLC here and there, but for the most part the animals looked mostly happy. I mean as much as they can living in a confined space. As you will see from the pictures below the zoo had a pretty good variety of animals there. I was most excited to see the anteater and the Koala; both which I’d never seen before. We were a little disappointed that there wasn’t more information in English about the different animals but just another reason to learn Japanese! Some things you don’t really need a guide for…like watching a baboon play with his poop, finger paint with it, and then see what it tastes like! I once knew a two year old who did that…but that’s another story! Well after about 3 hours of the zoo realm we were ready for a crepe filled with ice cream and a subway ride back home to watch the sunset from our roof.
