Kyoto-Kaiseki Cooking Class

Standard

We had an absolutely incredible Golden week here in Japan. Not only did we have a total of 10 days off from work but we also got to spend those 10 days with Mike’s parents! Being on the other side of the world makes you realize how much you miss the comfort of your family and so we were both extremely grateful that we got to spend some quality time together! My next few posts will be about our fun filled week of rice binging , geisha viewing, speed walking, and zen mastering.

First up on the itinerary was of course Kyoto. We spent 4 days 3 nights here soaking up all that we could see and experience in the once capital of Japan.

Day 1: We checked into our Airbnb and headed to the Nishiki Market where we met our tour guide Masa. We spent about 2 hours sampling our way through the market and buying all the ingredients we needed to make a traditional home cooked Kaiseki meal! Masa was kind enough to welcome us into his beautiful home that he designed and built himself! Even though we have been here for 6 months this was the first time we had been inside of a Japanese home. His home was unbelievably beautiful and the meal we ate was the first of many delicious meals to come.

  1. Thank you Alyssa, once again, for your delightful pictures and narration. I almost feel like I was along on parts of the “family trip” and can’t believe it took me this long to go back on Asia in a Bag! You two are involved in the most amazing journey and, just think, it has just begun. If I had you and Michele as my guaranteed guides, we would be visiting Japan in a heart beat. As it is, we are counting on seeing you when you pass through Tahoe on your way home to Colorado. Let the journey continue!❤️
P.S. Michele- we owe you a birthday present😘
